Wedding bells rang forNick JonasandPriyanka Choprain December after six months of dating, but that doesn’t mean they’re in a rush to add any little ones to their household.

In a chat withExtraabout the upcoming release ofUglyDolls, in which he voices the character Lou, the actor andJonas Brothersmusician said he’s not in competition with brotherJoe Jonasand fiancéeSophie Turnerover who has the better wedding — or who has children first.

“We’re taking our time,” Jonas, 26, said of starting a family with his wife.

The “Cool” singer also opened up toE! Newsat a junket for the animated film, not addressing the couple’s parenting plans directly but saying they “think about the future” when it comes to their career choices.

“And building something that becomes a part of a legacy in some way, and a story we can share with our kids in the future,” Jonas added of their goals. “That’s everything from the music to projects that we align ourselves with and, maybe some of the projectsthat are more adult-themed we’llhold those back ’til they get older obviously. But with something like [UglyDolls], it’s just a joy to be able to do this for the kids in general.”

In June, not long after she and her now-husband were first linked romantically, Chopra told PEOPLE, “[in] 10 years, I definitely want to have kids.”

“That is, it’s goingto happen in the next 10 years. Well, hopefully earlier than that. I’m very fond of children and I want to be able to do that,” added the actress and former Miss World.

For aPEOPLE cover storyahead of the spouses’ romantichoneymoon in the Caribbean, Chopra divulged of starting a family, “I always say, ‘Man proposes, God disposes.’ So I’m not taking any chances. We definitely want kids, and when the time is right, it will happen.”

Added Jonas to PEOPLE, “Letus be married first for a whilebefore we have to make all these big decisions. We’re in our honeymoon period right now and we will be for a very long time.”

The formerQuanticoactress told reporters in February at the premiere of her filmIsn’t It Romanticthat while she and her husband are in no hurry to start a family,she’ll be ready for diaper dutywhen it comes.

“We both know that that’s something that needs to happen, but it’s not something I think about very much,” Chopra revealed. “We’re both very driven, we love our work, we’re married to our work and we’re both very supportive of each other’s work. So I’msure it will happen inan organic way.”
