Maks ChmerkovskiyandPeta Murgatroyd’s family is growing, but even they’ll admit they didn’t see it coming.
“I mean, we have a 7-year-old, we have an 8-month-old and Peta’s 5 months pregnant,” he said. “So yeah, it was a surprise.”
“Oh wow,”Jennifer Hudsonreplied, to which the dancer said: “Yeah, and that’s the reaction I get 100% of the time. They’re like, ‘Oh wow.’ Like, yes.”

Chmerkovskiy’s fellowSo You Think You Can Dancejudge,Allison Holker,then weighed in, telling him he and Murgatroyd, who got married in 2017, are “wonderful parents.”
“You’re gonna be great, you’re gonna love it,” she said.
“That’s the second thing I get told right away,” the Ukrainian dancer admitted.

On the call, Chmerkovskiy was “tearing up” within seconds of his wife sharing the news, though they then pivoted to a bit of a panic as they joked, “What are we gonna do?” and discussed needing a bigger house. Murgatroyd wrote in the caption that it was “hilarious” telling her husband over FaceTime.
“It took one hour for me to get the courage to call him 😂 and when he wasn’t catching on we all couldn’t stop laughing in the kitchen. I had the ‘I’m so sick story’ the pickle and 2 bottles HAHA! Oh Maks 🥴.”
She continued, “After everything we’ve been through with miscarriages and IVF we’re beyond blessed and know we are uber lucky for this miracle to happen to us. We’re just so happy that we can finally tell you guys the good news 🥹.”
Though he may be nervous, theDancing with the Starsalumcan’t wait to officially be a dad of three.
“It’s definitely a dream come true, all those beat-up phrases,” Chmerkovskiy told PEOPLE in the wake of the exciting news. “I’m extremely excited to be in this position, in this place in my life. I am also very aware of the perspective, of where I come from, of where I am now.”

“I dreamt about this before. The family with somebody that I really want to have a family with. This unconditional love and house and it’s all of that. I’m also very much aware that it’s not that for everybody.”

He also reflected on how “lucky” he is, as he gave credit where it’s due to Murgatroyd.
“It’s easy to be a father of three with a spouse such as Peta," he gushed. “It’s not because I must, but I must admit that my job is much simpler than hers and I definitely get to enjoy the benefits of how amazing a mother, a wife and a friend that she is.”
