In another stunning find , The Siberian Timesreports the “ sensational ” discovery of two almost dead preserved cave social lion rookie .
Thought to be at least 10,000 years sure-enough , the lions were found earlier this summer in the Sakha ( Yakutia ) Republic of Siberia , famed for many otherstriking discoveries of ice age animals . The lions in question – easy the best preserved ever discovered – are thought to be Eurasiatic cave lions ( Panthera spelaea ) , which were among thelargest species of lionsever to have lived , with a shoulder peak of 1.2 meters ( 3.9 feet ) . They would have stalked the grasslands , taking down reindeer , horses , and perchance even youthful mammoths with which they shared the landscape . Why they disappeared is a piddling less sealed , but perhaps as their prey specie dwindled , due to a combination of climate alteration and human search , they were no longer able to live in the cold north of Europe .
The rookie have undergone a preliminary study , and the results will be presented at the terminal of November in the Siberian town of Yakutia to both national and outside press . They will be shown along with a whole host of other specimen savvy out of the permafrost in the region , including mammoths , woolly rhinos and ancient bison . While they have announced that the specimens are costless of sure microbial infection , such as mortal anthrax , all other meaning detail and picture of the finds are being close guarded .
