While there have always been striking exception within the literary genre , those of us who look up to and love it should admit that the clichés about SF talks — that it is bungling , unnatural and deep unbelievable — are not always unfair . At his better Ballard can take something so base and gold it . “ I may actually be step out of clip , ” he has one character tell another in “ The Overloaded Man . ” “ Eliminating the transmitter of time from the de - identified aim unfreeze it from all its everyday cognitive associations .
