Two little bundles of joy born recently at the Belfast Zoo really belong to the domain ’s largest rodent species .

Twincapybara babies , constitute Gus and Jacques , were comport to parent Charlie and Lola on April 3 .

" It ’s definitely an exciting fourth dimension and I am sure that zoological garden visitors will enjoy visiting our novel arrivals , Gus and Jacques , " said zoo handler Mark Challis .

Capybaras are aboriginal to South America . Their scientific name ( Hydrochoerus ) mean " weewee hog , " and although they are technically from the rodent family , this name relates to the fact that capibara are semi - aquatic fauna and love the weewee . In fact , capibara have net foot and can persist underwater for up to five minutes at a meter , to hide from predatory animal .
