Afteronly two hebdomad , it should be somewhat clear that HBO ’s The Last of Us iscatching on with audience . From its spot - on adaptation ofelements of the video biz , to its sullen extensions of that lore , to the terrifying reality of its reality , fans and non - fans of the biz alike seem to be eat it up . And , in the late episode , there seemed to be less eating and more … kissing , which some may have found odd .
Asdiscussed in our extended retread , episode two of The Last of Us end with Tess ( Anna Torv ) sacrificing herself to save Joel ( Pedro Pascal ) and Ellie ( Bella Ramsey ) . She kind of had to , as she ’s been burn and is sure to change state into a mindless Orcinus orca soon enough . But as the infected storm her locating , and one of them point out her , instead of running at her in a fit of rage , he approaches tardily and have her an open - mouth living dead osculation , with his life , squirming tendrils strike into her mouth .
It ’s a moment that ’s funny for a few reasons . One , it ’s not in the game , so a decision was made to specifically do this . Two , we ’re used to infected being incredibly tearing with their victims , and this one is quite the opposite . And three , if Tess was already infected , was there any real compass point to it ?

That third point in time ca n’t really be answered ( perchance the candy kiss sped up the transformation or was just cool - looking at ) , but the first two can and , in a new interview , co - showrunner Neil Druckmann talks about it . “ These thing do n’t have to get violent unless you ’re fighting them from spreading [ the infection ] further , ” Druckmann said toEntertainment Weekly . “ That is realized in this beautiful , yet terrible way with Anna . ”
So , because she ’s made peace treaty with becoming a zombie , she ’s kind of brought into the mix in a non - violent style . for sure , we can corrupt that . But what about the tendrils themselves , which are also a new addition ?
“ Craig [ Mazin ] sprucely said , ‘ What can we do to divide our infected even further from zombies ? ’ It ’s more than just a pungency . There ’s something else go on , ” Druckmann added . “ I bid we had that aha moment immediately , but we brainstorm so many dissimilar thing that they could be doing . Some of them were somewhat outlandish . ”

And , if you intend this human activity of violence / romance was something , you ai n’t seen nothing yet . Check out the momentin the latest sequence of The Last of Us .
